You never know what the trail might throw at you: steep climbs and white-knuckle drops, hero dirt and chunky rocks. Whatever trail features and fun you find, the new Crossmax XL S is ready to roll. This best-in-class alloy 29" wheel features many of the proven technologies that have long made Mavic a leader in MTB wheel innovation.

The rims are engineered with our patented Fore technology, featuring a fully sealed upper bridge that eliminates the need for rim tape. That saves 30 grams per wheel and does away with the hassle of using tape to set up tubeless tyres. We use ISM rim machining, which removes material in strategic areas of the rim to minimize weight without compromising strength. The rim has a 30mm internal width, optimized to squeeze the best performance out of any modern trail tyre, and our Black Shield technology gives them distinctive finish that protects against scratches and abrasions.

We use 24 straight-pull spokes to further dial in the sweet spot between lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. The Infinity hubs feature a stiffer and lighter construction that is enhanced by the ultra-reliable ID360 double ratchet system for fast engagement. The wheelset is set up for 6-bolt or center lock disc mounts and is compatible with Shimano HG9, SRAM XD, and Micro Spline freewheel bodies. It's available in 29" only and ships with UST tubeless valves, spare spokes and accessories.

ISM Light Rim Technology

Inter Spoke Milling (ISM) is an exclusive Mavic patented concept. It elminates all the excess material where it's not needed. Using a patented machining process, Mavic are able to vary the thickness of aluminium rims. In this way, the profile is lightened between each (thinner) spoke exactly where the mechanical stresses are lowest providing a 15% lighter rim without compromising on reliability.

Fore Tapeless Tubeless Technology

Stiffer and Stronger. Instead of being drilled, the lower rim bridge is pushed up on the inside, then threaded to enable the spoke nipples to be directly screwed into it, leaving the upper rim bridge intact.

Instant Drive 360 technology

Super light and efficient. The large contactless rubber seal provides low friction, while a wide array of end caps makes it super versatile.

UST tubeless technology

Traction and control. Universal Standard for Tubeless. Ready to ride tubeless system. The UST concept improves traction, control and comfort whilst reducing inertia and flats.

SUP Welding technology

Soude Usine Process, stronger and smoother joint. After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a smooth finish.

Black Shield Treatment

This treatment doubles the rim's lifespan against stone impacts and scratches. Super strong double coated treatment with a matt finish.

Infinity hub design

Efficient power transfer thanks to optimised non-contact spoke lacing (no noise under load) and tension distribution. The length of the spokes at the front and rear is identical. Maintenance is easy thanks to a tool-free solution.

QRM Auto Bearing Preload Technology

Qualite de Roulements Mavic Auto. Cartridge bearings double sealed with e3 internal clearance. Preload is automatically adjusted to guarantee a perfect spin with no play on the long run.
